This tool lets you browse structured data extracted from digitized 19th- and early 20th-century American brewery directories — including Tovey's Official Brewers and Maltsters Directory (1899–1918) and the Brewers Guide for the United States and Canada (1896–1898).
Each entry represents a brewery, maltster, or related business as it appeared in print. The data was extracted from scanned page images held by the New York Public Library and the Internet Archive using an OCR and named-entity recognition pipeline.
The Data Explorer makes use of the IIIF standard extensively, using IIIF annotations to present entry snippets, and uses IIIF Content State to give users links to the exact page location in the primary source for the entry.
